VR career exploration broadens horizons

For MOZAIC clients, VR is about more than just exploring careers in a fun, compelling way — it’s also about empowering them to investigate careers they might never have thought of doing. VR allows them to experience a day in the life of various careers in a safe, cost-effective manner.

With Transfr, students can explore and learn about “hands-on” jobs that they might be interested in without going into a warehouse to practice stacking boxes and or grinding metal.

MOZAIC Clients Excited to Use VR

MOZAIC uses VR career exploration from Transfr in their community pre-vocational and day habilitation programs. The staff reports that clients are excited to use VR to learn about an array of career options. The warehouse, fire safety (which explains how to use a fire extinguisher) modules, hospitality, and robotics safety modules are especially compelling.

Transfr sims include detailed instructions and feedback from simulated coaches. At MOZAIC, screen-casting is frequently used, allowing others to see the sim in action. Staff and clients support each other with positive feedback as they complete sims — creating a unique and positive learning environment.

VR lets people see exactly how jobs are done — and they’re given step-by-step instructions. It’s a lot more interesting being able to help do the job than just watching.
