Program at a Glance

The Construction Laborer Pre-Employment Program is a multimodal program designed with construction industry experts. Learners will develop foundational skills, including tool identification and handling, safety best practices, and interview readiness.

  • 70 VR simulations across 6 topic areas

  • Approximately 13 hours of engaging experiences

  • Learners earn digital badges for each completed topic

  • Closed captioning on all simulations

  • Student activity bundle with answer keys

Fundamental Skills covers the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills learners need across most trade or technical pathway. Each topic area includes a structured sequence of VR simulations and concludes with a digital badge, giving learners shareable recognition and educators clear evidence of progress.

Workplace Safety

(18 simulations, 3.3 hours)

Learners practice essential safety procedures including PPE usage, fire extinguisher operation, lockout-tagout, ladder and scaffold safety, hazardous materials handling, and accident prevention awareness.

Hand Tools

(5 simulations, 1.1 hours)

Learners identify, inspect, and safely use common hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, saws, and layout tools like squares and levels.

Power Tools

(12 simulations, 2.6 hours)

Learners inspect and safely operate various electric and pneumatic power tools including saws, drills, grinders, and impact wrenches while following proper safety procedures.

Electrical Fundamentals

(6 simulations, 2 hours)

Learners explore electrical circuits and Ohm's Law, use multimeters to measure voltage and current, perform basic soldering, and assemble and wire variable speed motors.

Safe Material Handling

(8 sims, 2.1 hours)

Learners practice safe lifting techniques, operate material handling equipment like pallet jacks, understand rigging basics with slings and hitches, and work safely around hoists and cranes.

Math & Measurement

(21 simulations, 2.2 hours)

Learners develop precision measurement skills by simplifying fractions, rounding decimals, and using various measurement tools including rules, calipers, and micrometers to take accurate measurements.

Prepare Learners for Construction Careers

The Construction Laborer Pre-Employment Program helps workforce boards and community-based organizations streamline the path to employability and apprenticeship programs.

Middle School: On-Ramp to CTE

Learners exploring technical career options get to experience what the work actually looks and feels like, building foundational habits around safety, tools, and measurement that carry them into any CTE program they choose.

Secondary CTE: Supplemental CTE Experiences

Not every student can safely step up to real equipment on day one, and not every instructor can run a full class through hands-on tools at the same time. The Fundamental Skills program helps students build procedural habits that make lab time safer, more productive, and accessible to the whole class.
