Arkansas Northeastern College VR Study Shows High User Engagement

In 2023, Transfr partnered with Arkansas Northeastern College (ANC) to measure student experiences with VR learning. Data was gathered from high school students at the ANC Technical Center, who were either enrolled there or visiting for a career event. Students were given limited time to use the Transfr VR Career Exploration product, then were given a QR code to fill out an online survey later to share their experiences.

Participant breakdown

  • 31 students in grades 9-12 were surveyed.
  • Most students came from KIPP Collegiate and Hayti school districts.
  • Many students were visitors for career events; approximately 30% were enrolled in the Industrial Technologies program.

For high school students who are planning for their future education and careers, exploring various job fields can help them make informed decisions. We have observed that these students appreciated the opportunity to try new job fields they hadn't thought about without visiting different job sites.

Via the online survey, 68% of students reported high engagement in the VR simulations.*

VR Career Exploration Broadens Horizons for Career Categories

One of the many benefits of VR career exploration is that it allows students to explore careers that are outside their usual realm of experiences. For many students, if a job is not readily visible in their home area, family, community, etc., they are highly unlikely to consider it as a career option for themselves.

 

The most popular simulations tried and completed by the students were Robot Maintenance, Maintenance and Repair Worker, and Hotel Front Desk. Students chose Hotel Front Desk and Carpenter as the most interesting VR simulations.

VR career exploration drives student interest in diverse careers

Based on this study, VR career exploration appears to have a noticeably high ability to excite and engage students around a variety of occupations: 84% of students reported high interest in the topics introduced in the VR simulations. Combined with the diverse array of careers chosen by the students, this is an encouraging finding with regards to VR career exploration’s ability to open up new horizons for learners and job seekers.*
